    AbulÉdu – французский дистрибутив GNU/Linux, созданный специально для обработки данных в образовательных учреждениях. Изначально в основу AbulÉdu была положена Mandriva Linux, затем – Debian/Knoppix, а нынешний выпуск, AbulÉdu 11.08, основан на Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, дополненном значительным количеством новых приложений и улучшенных инструментов, таких как LibreOffice 3.3, OOo4Kids со словарями, AbiWord, LyX, Firefox 7.0 с AdBlock Plus, DansGuardian, Thunderbird, Pidgin, TuxPaint, GIMP, Scribus, Stellarium, VLC, Audacity, TBI Sankoré 3.1, Dr Géo, Tux Math, Tux Type. Live DVD позволяет протестировать дистрибутив, обеспечивает безопасное посещение сайтов Интернета, соединение со школным сервером для выполнения домашней работы или чтения электронных писем, соединение клиента AbulÉdu с сервером LTSP.
  • aLinux

    aLinux – ранее известный как Peanut Linux (появился под таким названием в 1999 году, а в 2005 произошла смена брэнда на aLinux). Дистрибутив канадского происхождения, независимый потомок Red Hat, соответственно управление пакетами у него на базе rpm.
  • ALT Linux

    Дистрибутивы ALT Linux (Альт Линукс) — это семейство дистрибутивов Linux, являющихся отдельной ветвью развития русскоязычного Linux, выпускаемых компанией «Альт Линукс» и её партнёрами, основывающихся на разработках русскоязычной команды разработчиков ALT Linux Team. Большинство дистрибутивов Альт Линукс доступны для свободного скачивания.
  • antiX

    antiX - это быстрый, облегченный и легко устанавливаемый дистрибутив Linux, основаный на Debian Testing и MEPIS для Intel-AMD x86 совместимых систем. antiX предлагает пользователям "Магию Меписа" в оптимальной среде для старых ПК. Так что не выбрасывайте пока что свой старый компьютер! Цель antiX'а - это предоставить облегченную, но функциональную и гибкую бесплатную операционную систему, как для новичков, так и для опытных пользователей Linux. Дистрибутив должен запускаться почти на всех компьютерах, оснащенных 64Мб ОЗУ, PII 266 систем. Однако, 128Мб ОЗУ - это рекоммендуемый объем, необходимый для antiX. Установка требует минимум 1.2Гб дискового пространства на жестком диске. antiX также может служить, как быстро загружаемый спасательный cd. antiX-M7-M8.5 не поддерживает (пока что) старейшие процессоры, такие как Pentium I (Судя по всему PII подходит), AMD K5 и AMD K6 т.к. они используют устаревшее i686 ядро. antiX-Spartacus должен будет поддерживать. В настоящий момент antiX предоставляется, как полный дистрибутив (680Мб) и основной дистрибутив (260Мб). Для тех, кто желает лично управлять процессом установки рекоммендуется использовать основной дистрибутив.

  • aptosid

    aptosid — это операционная система, предназначенная для работы на настольных компьютерах, основанная на «нестабильной» ветке Debian, которая известна под кодовым именем Sid. До сентября 2010 года aptosid была известна как sidux. Дистрибутив состоит из Live CD (загрузочного CD диска) для архитектур x86 и x86-64 с возможностью установки на жёсткий диск через графический инсталлятор.   • ArchBang Linux

    ArchBang Linux легковесный LiveCD дистрибутив основанный на наработках Arch Linux и имеющий интерфейс пользователя на базе оконного менеджера Openbox. 7 октября 2010 года была выпущена версия названная "Reloaded" (32-bit версия, 64-bit была выпущена немного раньше) в честь отказа от использования LXDE и возвращению к использованию OpenBox. Основной задачей разработчиков ArchBang является создание простого и лёгкого, в установке, настройке и использовании, дистрибутива на базе Arch Linux. Приложения входящие в дистрибутив подобраны исходя из легкости графического интерфейса. Но при этом разработчики пытались не жертвовать удобством использования в угоду лёгкости, оснастив ArchBang стандартным набором современных Linux приложений для комфортной работы.
  • ArcheOS

    ArcheOS stands for Archaeological Operating System. It is a GNU/Linux live DVD distribution (versions 1.x based on PCLinuxOS, versions 2 and 3 on Kubuntu, version 4 on Debian GNU/Linux), with specialist software for archaeological purposes.
  • AriOS

    AriOS - очень интересная сборка Ubuntu с хорошим дизайном и большим выбором приложений, специально для людей с плохим или отсутствующим соединением с сетью. Последняя AriOS 3.0 базируется на 11.04, но не содержит Unity и использует Avant Window Navigator: также слева есть лаунчер (с DockBarX как менеджер задач). Также, в AriOS 3.0 включен Compiz 0.8.6 “для исправления проблемы в Natty".
  • ArtistX

    ArtistX - основан на Ubuntu дистрибутиве с коллекцией свободного мультимедийного ПО для работы со звуком, видео, 2D- и 3D-графикой. Целью проекта ArtistX является демонстрация разнообразия мультимедийного ПО, доступного на платформе GNU/Linux, и предоставление возможности работы с медиаконтентом при помощи свободного программного обеспечения. Основанный на Ubuntu 11.04 релиз Live DVD ArtistX 1.1 создан при помощи Remastersys, и включает ядро 2.6.38, GNOME 2.32 и KDE 4.6, Compiz Fusion, а также около 2,5 тыс. пакетов свободного мультимедийного ПО.
  • Asturix

  • Aurora OS

  • AV Linux

    AV Linux построен на кодовой базе Debian дистрибутива с рабочим столом LXDE и набором ПО для создания мультимедийного контента. AV Linux может работать как live DVD или live USB, или же быть установленным на жёсткий диск и использоваться в качестве операционной системы общего назначения для выполнения ежедневных задач.
  • BackBox Linux

    BackBox Linux представляет новый стабильный релиз специализированного дистрибутива GNU/Linux, предназначенного для проведения пен-тестов и оценки безопасности компьютерных систем.
  • BackTrack

    BackTrack — GNU/Linux-LiveCD, возникший как результат слияния WHAX и Auditor Security Collection. Проект создали Мати Ахарони (Mati Aharoni) и Макс Мозер (Max Moser). Предназначен прежде всего для проведения тестов на безопасность.
  • Baltix GNU/Linux

    Baltix GNU/Linux — операционная система на основе Ubuntu, стремящаяся быть полной и удобной в использовании для литовцев и латышей. Поддерживаются литовский, латышский, эстонский, русский, английский, норвежский и другие языки стран балтийского региона. Основным языком является литовский. Дистрибутив официально рекомендован Министерством образования Литвы для использования в школах.
  • Bardinux

    Bardinux, a project of the Office of Free Software at the Universidad de La Laguna, Canary Islands, Spain, is a Kubuntu-based distribution. It follows Kubuntu's long-term support release and is designed primarily for the students of the university.
  • Bayanihan Linux

    Проект Bayanihan Linux основан на старшей стабильной ветке Debian (в качестве рабочего окружения пользователю предлагается KDE 3.5) и ориентирован на применение в офисах и учебных заведениях.   • BeakOS

    BeakOS is a Mexican Linux distribution. Built from scratch, but following closely Slackware's file system layout and package management, it offers separate editions for servers and desktops (a choice of GNOME 2 or Xfce). All products come in the form of a live CD with a text-mode hard disk installation program.
  • Berry Linux

    Berry Linux - Linux LiveCD с автоматическим определением аппаратных средств и поддержкой большого количества видеокарт, звуковых карт, устройств SCSI и USB, других периферийных устройств, созданный японцем Юсиро Накада. Созданный как система общего назначения, Berry Linux может использоваться для демонстрации возможностей Linux, для учебных целей, как ремонтно-восстановительный инструмент, а также как настольная система. По общей идее Berry Linux сходен с Knoppix, однако в отличие от последнего, он основан на RPM Red Hat Linux (точнее, на Fedora Core) и практически идентичен RH по составу программного обеспечения. Berry Linux несовместим с Knoppix и другими продуктами на базе Debian GNU/Linux. От Knoppix он позаимствовал только систему распознавания аппаратных средств hwsetup и сжатую файловую систему squashfs.
  • Big Linux

    Основное отличие BIG Linux 2.0 от других дистрибутивов состоит в развитых 3D-возможностях. Правда, по умолчанию используется привычный двумерный рабочий стол, однако, с помощью специальных пунктов меню GRUB можно загрузить KDE 3D и Gnome 3D. На что они похожи, можно понять из экранных снимков. При всей своей оригинальности, BIG Linux 2.0 обладает и существенным минусом - интерфейс системы использует португальский язык.
  • Bio-Linux

    Bio-Linux - это дистрибутив, основанный на Ubuntu 10.04 и содержащий более 500 различных биоинформатических программ. Система может работать с загрузочного диска, но в режиме LiveCD по умолчанию идет английский язык. Выбрать нужный язык дистрибутива можно при установке. С русификацией проблем нет.
  • blackPanther OS

    blackPanther Os - венгерский дистрибутив Linux, основанный на Mandriva и разработанный для использования в школе, на работе и дома. blackPanther OS использует графический конфигуратор Mandriva, пользовательский интерфейс Fedora и менеджер драйверов Ubuntu. Новая версия данного дистрибутива выходит каждый год.
  • BlankOn

    Дистрибутив BlankOn создан совместными усилиями индонезийской Linux User Group и индонезийским сообществом Ubuntu. Основной целью проекта является создание настольного дистрибутива Linux с полной поддержкой индонезийского языка. Новейшая версия BlankOn Linux, 4.0 «Meuligoe», основана на Ubuntu 8.10, использует Linux kernel 2.6.27 и GNOME 2.24. В состав дистрибутива по умолчанию также входит ряд популярных приложений, таких как GIMP, Inkscape и GnuCash. В BlankOn Linux изначально включена поддержка MP3 и других широко распространённых медиакодеков, воспроизведение кодированных DVD, пользовательские темы и графическое оформление.
  • Bodhi Linux

    odhi Linux - это не просто еще один дистрибутив на базе Ubuntu. Bodhi находится в числе тех немногих потомков Ubuntu, которые используют менеджер окон Enlightenment (E17) вместо обычных GNOME или KDE.
  • BRLix

    Бразильский дистрибутив BRlix - образец качественной имитации MsVista. Умеет работать в режиме Live-cd, с помощью графического инсталлятора и gpart легко устанавливается на жёсткий диск.
  • CAELinux

    CAELinux 2011- новый релиз основанного на Ubuntu дистрибутиве с комплектом свободных САЕ-программ (Computer-aided engineering – ПО, предназначенное для решения различных инженерных задач: расчётов, анализа и симуляции физических процессов). CAELinux 2011 основан на 64-битной редакции Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS, и содержит уникальный комплект инструментов моделирования с открытым исходным кодом, в том числе Salome_Meca 2011.2, Code-Aster 11.0, Code-Saturne 2.0.2, OpenFOAM 2.0.1, Elmer 6.2.
  • CAINE

    CAINE (Computer Aided INvestigative Environment) is an Ubuntu-based GNU/Linux live distribution created as a project of digital forensics. It offers a complete forensic environment that is organised to integrate existing software tools as software modules and to provide a friendly graphical interface. The main design objectives that CAINE aims to guarantee are: an interoperable environment that supports the digital investigator during the four phases of the digital investigation, a user-friendly graphical interface, and a semi-automated compilation of the final report.
  • Calculate Linux

    Calculate Linux — семейство дистрибутивов, предназначенных для малого и среднего бизнеса, в которых применяются перемещаемые профили и централизованное развертывание программного обеспечения. Cозданы на основе проекта Gentoo Linux и полностью с ним совместимы.
  • Caos Linux

    CAOS Linux — поддерживаемый и управляемый сообществом дистрибутив Linux, основанный на системе управления пакетами RPM. Возможно, название дистрибутива является акронимом от «Community Assembled Operating System» («Операционная система, собираемая сообществом»). Заглавные буквы названия дистрибутива печатаются различным способом: в ранних релизах встречалось написание cAos и CAos; в настоящий момент на официальном сайте проекта используются написания CAOS и Caos. CAOS Linux сочетает в себе наработки операционных систем Debian, Red Hat Linux/Fedora и FreeBSD, стремясь быть достаточно стабильным для использования на серверах и кластерах. Проект CAOS управляется объединённой командой разработчиков открытого программного обеспечения The CAOS Foundation.
  • Càtix

    Càtix — это основанный на Debian дистрибутив. Может работать как Live-дистрибутив (live DVD). Основной особенностью является полная поддержка каталонского языка.
  • CDlinux

    CDlinux - это маленький (около 60Мб) десктоп-дистрибутив Linux. с оконным менеджером Xfce и распространяемого в виде LiveCD дисков размером 25 Мб, 60 Мб и 200 Мб. Обеспечивает хорошую локализацию. Легок в настройке и удобен в работе.
  • CentOS

    CentOS (англ. Community ENTerprise Operating System) — дистрибутив Linux, основанный на коммерческом Red Hat Enterprise Linux компании Red Hat и совместимый с ним.
  • Chakra GNU/Linux

    Chakra GNU/Linux — это свободная операционная система. Chakra сделана на основе дистрибутива Arch Linux и среды рабочего стола KDE. Chakra возникла как KDEMod, более модульной версии окружения рабочего стола KDE для Arch Linux. Позже разработчики KDEMod решили отделиться от Arch Linux и создать собственный дистрибутив, которым стал Chakra. Он сочетает в себе графический инсталятор, автоматическое определение и настройку оборудования, последнюю версию KDE и множество утилит.
  • Comfusion

    Comfusion — это принципиально новый Ubuntu для испаноговорящих линуксоидов. Третья версия Comfusion рождалась два года и содержит большое число значительных улучшений. Прежде всего, пользователю предоставляется выбор графической среды в которой он будет работать: GNOME, LXDE или OpenBox.
  • Commodore OS Vision

    Commodore OS Vision is a 64-bit Linux distribution, based on Linux Mint, created for Commodore enthusiasts purchasing Commodore USA hardware, such as Commodore 64, VIC series and the upcoming high-performance line of Amiga computers. These are essentially restore disks for pre-installed Commodore systems. Commodore OS Vision uses the classic GNOME 2 interface and features extensive Compiz/Emerald desktop effects. It includes dozens of games of all genres (FPS, Racing, Retro etc), the Firefox and Chromium web browsers, LibreOffice, Scribus, GIMP, Blender, OpenShot and Cinellera, advanced software development tools and languages, sound editing through Ardour and Audacity, and music composition programs such as the Linux MultiMedia Studio. It has a classic Commodore slant with a selection of applications reminiscent of their classic Amiga counterparts.
  • CTKArch

    Debian — операционная система, состоящая из свободного ПО с открытым исходным кодом. В настоящее время Debian GNU/Linux — один из самых популярных и важных дистрибутивов Linux, в первичной форме оказавший значительное влияние на развитие этого типа ОС в целом. Также существуют проекты на основе других ядер: Debian GNU/Hurd, Debian GNU/kNetBSD и Debian GNU/kFreeBSD. Debian может использоваться как операционная система для серверов, так и для рабочих станций.
  • DebXPde

  • DEFT Linux

    DEFT Linux - специализированный live-дистрибутив, предназначенный для расследования взломов и поиска скрытых данных. Также может применяться для проведения аудита безопасности.
  • DesktopBSD

    DesktopBSD — операционная система, созданная на основе FreeBSD. Система ориентирована на использование для рабочих станций (см. Desktop). Отличается от FreeBSD использованием по умолчанию оконного интерфейса KDE и соответствующего набора программ. Установка системы происходит с помощью графического инсталлятора на базе BSD Installer, также предусмотрена работа в режиме LiveCD (без инсталляции на компьютер).
  • Devil-Linux

    Devil-Linux один из старейших серверных LiveCD дистрибутивов. Загружается полностью с компакт-диска или USB-устройства. При работе не требует жесткого диска. Конфигурацию можно хранить на дискете, USB Flash или же записать на компакт-диск. Системные требования Devil-Linux могут удивить своим минимализмом бывалого администратора. Он создавался как серверный дистрибутив для работы в качестве межсетевых экранов или сетевых шлюзов. Причем минимальные системные требования начинаются от конфигурации PC 486 DX2/66-class и выше.
  • DragonFly BSD

    DragonFly BSD — операционная система с открытым кодом, возникшая в середине 2003 года на базе FreeBSD (4-й ветки), ориентированна на платформу x86. Один из разработчиков FreeBSD — Мэтт Диллон (Matt Dillon) с группой товарищей — будучи неудовлетворенным оптимизацией ядра FreeBSD, основал новую операционную систему DragonFlyBSD как систему, предназначенную для работы на высоконагруженных серверах, и более оптимально использующую ресурсы процессора и оперативной памяти, прежде всего на многопроцессорных системах.
  • Dreamlinux

    Dreamlinux — это Бразильский дистрибутив Linux, основанный на Debian и 100%-совместимый с ним. Возможна загрузка с live CD и USB flash диска, или установка на жёсткий диск компьютера. Главная задача — создать систему сразу готовую к повседневной работе, обладающую изящным интерфейсом, нетребовательную к аппаратуре и поддерживающую дух свободного программного обеспечения. Дистрибутив использует Xfce, модифицированный так, чтобы быть похожим на Mac OS X.
  • Dream Studio

    Dream Studio - дистрибутив Linux, основанный на Ubuntu. Dream Studio содержит приложения, необходимые для создания потрясающей графики, видео и музыки, например Blender - программа для работы с 3D графикой, Cinelerra - мощный видео-редактор, Audacity- звуковой редактор и многие другие. Dream Studio можно запустить непосредственно с DVD либо установить на жесткий диск или на USB Flash.
  • dyne:bolic

    Dynebolic Linux (dyne:bolic) - пример специализированного дистрибутива. Его создателями являются европейские разработчики, работающие под эгидой сети PublicVoice.FM. Главной отличительной особенностью Dynebolic Linux является его направленность на живой стриминг аудиопотоков в Интернете. Включая в себя мультимедиа плеер и программное обеспечение для записи и микширования звука, дистрибутив позволяет, не устанавливая на компьютер никакого программного обеспечения, создать свою Интернет-радиостанцию с возможностью стриминга в реальном времени.
  • Edubuntu

    Edubuntu — дистрибутив операционной системы Linux, основанный на дистрибутиве Ubuntu. Ориентирован на использование в образовательных учреждениях.
  • elementary OS

    Elementary OS - операционная система на базе Ubuntu Linux.
  • Epidemic GNU/Linux

    Epidemic GNU/Linux - дружественный к пользователю дистрибутив из Бразилии (с поддержкой португальского и английского языков), основанного на тестовой ветви Debian. Упор в этом релизе был сделан на исправлении ошибок и полировке системы, однако есть и несколько важных нововведений, например новая опция загрузки, позволяющая загружаться непосредственно из ISO-образа, находящегося на жестком диске, увеличение скорости загрузки системы, переход на GRUB2, обновление до KDE 4.3 с Compiz Fusion.
  • Estrella Roja

    Estrella Roja - дистрибутив Linux от аргентинских разработчиков. Данный дистрибутив (прежде выпускавшийся под наименованием Red Star GNU/Linux) основан на тестовой ветви Debian, и использует в качестве рабочего окружения KDE 3.5.
  • ESUN Linux

    ESUN Linux - самый малораспространенный из всех рапространенных Ubuntu.
  • Evinux

    Evinux is a Linux live CD based on Knoppix, but with light-weight window managers - Fluxbox and XFce. It is developed by Linucie.net, a French organisation for promoting Free Software and GNU/Linux.
  • ExTiX

    ExTiX - основанный на Ubuntu настольный дистрибутив для компьютеров 64-битной архитектуры. Особенностью релиза является возможность выбора между настольными окружениями GNOME Shell и Razor-qt, а также последняя стабильная версия ядра.
  • Fedora

    Fedora (англ. «мягкая фетровая шляпа», произносится «федо́ра», ранее Fedora Core) — дистрибутив операционной системы Linux. Этот дистрибутив спонсируется фирмой Red Hat и поддерживается сообществом. Проект служит для тестирования новых технологий, которые в дальнейшем включаются в продукты Red Hat и других производителей. Компания Red Hat не предоставляет поддержку пользователям Fedora, поддержка осуществляется открытым сообществом. Цель проекта Fedora — построение целостной операционной системы из свободного программного обеспечения, хотя она всё ещё содержит некоторые несвободные компоненты.[1] Версии выходят каждые 6-8 месяцев по доступному расписанию.
  • Finnix

    Finnix — это операционная система, основанная на Debian и распространяемая как Live CD. Разработана Ryan Finnie и предназначена для использования системными администраторами для выполнения различных задач, таких как восстановление файловой системы, мониторинг сети и установка ОС. Finnix это относительно маленький дистрибутив, размер образа ISO составляет приблизительно 100 Мб. Finnix доступна для архитектур: x86, x86-64, PowerPC, User Mode Linux и Xen. Может запускаться с CD, USB, жёсткого диска или прямо по сети (PXE).
  • Frenzy

    Frenzy — Live-CD на базе операционной системы FreeBSD. Предназначен для настройки, проверки и анализа компьютерных сетей, тестирования компьютерного аппаратного обеспечения и ряда других задач. Frenzy полностью русифицирована, в её состав входит русскоязычная документация по FreeBSD, а также краткая справка по работе с системой.
  • Fuduntu

    Fuduntu Linux — Linux-дистрибутив на базе Fedora, созданный Andrew Wyatt. По словам разработчиков, дистрибутив представляет собой нечто среднее между Ubuntu и Fedora. Оптимизирован для работы на нетбуках и прочих портативных компьютерах, но при этом позиционируется как ОС общего назначения.
  • FuguIta

    FuguIta is an OpenBSD live CD featuring portable workplace, low hardware requirements, additional software, and partial support for Japanese. This live CD is intended to be as close as possible to the default OpenBSD when installed on a hard disk.
  • Fusion Linux

    GNUstep live CD is a Debian-based Linux distribution containing GNUstep, network tools, multimedia software and games. GNUstep is an implementation of the OPENSTEP and Cocoa frameworks.
  • Greenie Linux

    Greenie Linux is a Slovak desktop distribution based on Ubuntu and optimised for users in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Created as an operating system for every-day use, Greenie Linux combines a set of applications for home use, out-of-the-box functionality and Ubuntu repositories. The goal of this distribution is to create a user-friendly desktop system and a useful live CD.

    Grml is a bootable CD (live CD) based on Debian GNU/Linux. It includes a collection of GNU/Linux software especially for users of text tools and system administrators. It also provides automatic hardware detection. Grml can be used as a rescue system, for analysing systems and networks, or as a working environment. Due to on-the-fly decompression, Grml includes about 2 GB of software and documentation on the CD.

Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it.

  • Kongoni GNU/Linux

Although the live DVD is based on Arch Linux, it does not offer any desktop Linux functionality except gaming.

The company's flagship product, Mandriva Linux, offers all the power and stability of Linux to both individuals and professional users in an easy-to-use and pleasant environment.

  • Nova

    Nova is a user-friendly, desktop-oriented Linux distribution developed by the University of Computer Sciences in Havana, Cuba. In the product's early days the operating system was based on Gentoo Linux and Sabayon Linux, but starting from version 2.1 the developers have chosen Ubuntu as the base system.

    Network Security Toolkit (NST) is a bootable live CD based on Fedora Core. The toolkit was designed to provide easy access to best-of-breed open source network security applications and should run on most x86 platforms. The main intent of developing this toolkit was to provide the network security administrator with a comprehensive set of open source network security tools. What we find rather fascinating with NST is that we can transform most x86 systems (Pentium II and above) into a system designed for network traffic analysis, intrusion detection, network packet generation, wireless network monitoring, a virtual system service server, or a sophisticated network/host scanner.

  • OLPC OS

    One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is an initiative to build a low-cost laptop computer with a pre-installed operating system and applications designed for children in developing countries. The operating system is a Linux-based solution, a heavily customised edition of Fedora Core with a special graphical user interface called Sugar. Among applications, the system includes a web browser built on Xulrunner, a simple document viewer based on Evince; the AbiWord word processor, an RSS reader, email, chat and VOIP clients, a multimedia authoring and playback environment, a music composition toolkit, graphics toolkits, games, a shell, and a debugger.
  • OpenIndiana

    OpenIndiana is a continuation of the OpenSolaris operating system. It was conceived during the period of uncertainty following the Oracle takeover of Sun Microsystems, after several months passed with no binary updates made available to the public. The formation proved timely, as Oracle discontinued OpenSolaris soon after in favour of Solaris 11 Express, a binary distribution with a more closed development model to début later this year. OpenIndiana is part of the Illumos Foundation, and provides a true open-source community alternative to Solaris 11 and Solaris 11 Express, with an open development model and full community participation.
  • openmamba GNU/Linux

    openmamba GNU/Linux is a distribution for personal computers (Intel i686-compatible) that can be used on notebooks, desktops and servers.   • PelicanHPC GNU Linux

    PelicanHPC is a Debian-based live CD image with a goal to make it simple to set up a high performance computing cluster. The front-end node (either a real computer or a virtual machine) boots from the CD image. The compute nodes boot by Pre-Execution Environment (PXE), using the front-end node as the server. All of the nodes of the cluster get their file systems from the same CD image, so it is guaranteed that all nodes run the same software. The CD image is created by running a single script, which makes it possible to customise the live CD image with extra Debian packages.

The distribution started as a community remix of Slax, another Slackware-based live CD (which is no longer actively maintained), with KDE 3 as the default desktop for the i486 edition and a stripped-down KDE 4 as the desktop environment for the x86_64 flavour. The lightweight LXDE is available as an alternative desktop environment.

    Puppy Linux is yet another Linux distribution. What's different here is that Puppy is extraordinarily small, yet quite full-featured. Puppy boots into a ramdisk and, unlike live CD distributions that have to keep pulling stuff off the CD, it loads into RAM. This means that all applications start in the blink of an eye and respond to user input instantly. Puppy Linux has the ability to boot off a flash card or any USB memory device, CDROM, Zip disk or LS/120/240 Superdisk, floppy disks, internal hard drive. It can even use a multisession formatted CD-RW/DVD-RW to save everything back to the CD/DVD with no hard drive required at all.

    PureOS and PureOSlight are GNU/Linux live CDs based on Debian's testing repository. These are desktop distributions that can be used as live media (CD or USB) or as full-featured operating systems installed on a hard disk. PureOS is a 700 MB live CD with KDE, Iceweasel, Icedove, OpenOffice.org, Songbird, VLC and K3B. PureOSlight is a small 300 MB live CD with Xfce, Iceweasel, Icedove, AbiWord, Gnumeric and Exaile.

  • Qomo Linux

  • Quirky

    Quirky, a sister project of Puppy Linux, is a Linux distribution built with a custom tool called Woof. The underlying infrastructure, such as boot-up and shut-down scripts, setup tools, hardware detection, desktop management, user interface, speed and general ease-of-use are common across all distributions built with Woof, but a specific build will have a different package selection and further customisation (even totally different binary packages). Quirky is developed by the founder of Puppy Linux and Woof to push the envelope a bit further, to explore some new ideas in the underlying infrastructure -- some of which may be radical or odd, hence the name Quirky.

The project also promises regular releases, an open development model, and friendly relationship with its developer and user community.
  • SliTaz GNU/Linux

    SliTaz GNU/Linux is a mini distribution and live CD designed to run speedily on hardware with 256 MB of RAM. SliTaz uses BusyBox, a recent Linux kernel and GNU software. It boots with Syslinux and provides more than 200 Linux commands, the lighttpd web server, SQLite database, rescue tools, IRC client, SSH client and server powered by Dropbear, X window system, JWM (Joe's Window Manager), gFTP, Geany IDE, Mozilla Firefox, AlsaPlayer, GParted, a sound file editor and more. The SliTaz ISO image fits on a less than 30 MB media and takes just 80 MB of hard disk space.
  • Superb Mini Server

    Superb Mini Server (SMS) is a Slackware-based server distribution with web, DNS, DHCP, file, print and fax servers, iptables firewall, mail server with spam filter and anti-virus scanner, and BitTorrent station. It also includes Webmin, a web-based administration tool, but no graphical desktop. SMS, which comes with Slackware's text-mode system installer, is built using Linux-Live scripts (from Slax) and can be used as a live CD for testing purposes.

    SoL (Server optimized Linux) is a Linux distribution completely independent from other Linux distributions. It was built from the original source packages and is optimised for heavy-duty server work.   • SystemRescueCd

    SystemRescueCd is a Gentoo-based Linux system on a bootable CD-ROM or USB drive, designed for repairing a system and data after a crash. It also aims to provide an easy way to carry out administration tasks on a computer, such as creating and editing hard disk partitions. It contains many useful system utilities (GNU Parted, PartImage, FSTools) and some basic ones (editors, Midnight Commander, network tools). It aims to be very easy to use. The kernel of the system supports all of today's most important file systems, including ext2, ext3, ext4, ReiserFS, Reiser4FS, btrfs, XFS, JFS, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660, as well as network file systems, such as Samba and NFS.
  • Tiny Core Linux

    Tiny Core Linux is a 10 MB graphical Linux desktop. It is based on the Linux 2.6 kernel, BusyBox, Tiny X, Fltk, and Flwm. The core runs entirely in memory and boots very quickly. The user has complete control over which applications and/or additional hardware to have supported, be it for a desktop, a nettop, an appliance or server; selectable from the project's online repository.
  • TinyMe

    TinyMe is a Unity Linux-based mini-distribution. It exists to ease installation of Unity Linux on older computers, to provide a minimal installation for developers, and to deliver a fast Linux installation for where only the bare essentials are needed.
  • Toorox

    Toorox is a Gentoo-based live DVD which boots into a KDE desktop using KNOPPIX hardware auto-detection and auto-configuration technologies. It is a useful tool for backing up data, browsing the Internet anonymously, or taking a first look at the capabilities of Linux. The live DVD can be installed to a hard disk with the help of a simple graphical installer.
  • Trinity Rescue Kit

    Trinity Rescue Kit (TRK) is a bootable Linux distribution aimed specifically at offline operations for Windows and Linux systems such as rescue, repair, password resets and cloning. It has custom tools to easily recover deleted files, clone Windows installations over the network, perform antivirus sweeps with two different antivirus products, reset windows passwords, read and write on NTFS partitions, edit partition layout and much much more. Other main features include custom desktop and theme with 3D effects, support for a wide range of networking options, including WiFi and Bluetooth, and integration of many extra applications and package repositories.
  • Unity Linux

    The community-oriented Unity Linux is a minimalist distribution and live CD based on Mandriva Linux. The project's main goal is to create a base operating system from which more complete, user-oriented distribution can easily be built - either by other distribution projects or by the users themselves. Unity Linux uses Openbox as the default window manager. Its package management is handled via Smart and RPM 5 which can download and install additional software packages from the project's online repository.
  • Ubuntu Privacy Remix

    Ubuntu Privacy Remix (UPR) is a modified live DVD based on Ubuntu. Its goal is to provide a completely isolated working environment where private data can be dealt with safely and to protect data against unsolicited access. Networking is intentionally disabled and saving data to mounted volumes is not allowed. The live CD is not installable to hard disk.
